Bourbon County, Kentucky, Two Slave Manumissions, 1859

Lot of 2 Kentucky slave manumissions freeing slaves Thornton Love and Nancy Shearman. Love was set free by his master, B.F. Brown, at no cost while Shearman was emancipated by the last will and testament of her owner, Shauraey Shearman, but still had to pay the sum of 500 dollars for her freedom. Love was set free on March 7, 1859 and Shearman on October 12, 1859.

After earning his freedom, forty-nine-year-old Thornton moved to Ohio and held various positions as a laborer. There are no further records of Shearman.

Very good, some typical folds.
