Civil War Loyalty Oath to the United States of Rufus Mason, Tennessee, 1865

Loyalty Oath to the United States of Rufus M. Mason, of Madison County, Tennessee, dated July 17, 1865. On District of West Tennessee paper with a five cent revenue stamp affixed to the paper. 

Rufus M. Mason mustered into the 39th TN Mounted Inf., William Bradford's 31st Inf., as a private but rose to the rank of sergeant. The regiment spent 47 days in the trenches of Vicksburg until it was captured on July 4, 1863. The Union exchanged and released the regiment sometime later that year.
