Madison County, Kentucky, Will Including Slaves, 1827

The last will and testament of William Terrill dated February 1, 1827. Terrill was a Revolutionary War veteran and slave owner in Madison County, KY. He was one of the first Euro-American settlers in the area.  He left his wife all of his belongings and 14 identified slaves. He gave each of his children a slave as well as a horse and saddle to one of his daughters. Census records in 1810 show he owned two slaves. By 1827, that number significantly increased.
